    Capable A3 printer-scanner & superb service

Posted by Unknown on 10th Jul 2019

As a sole trader with a very specific requirements (relatively low volume but colour A3 printing and scanning a must, and compact size desirable), I discovered the range of possibilities was quite small and that all the laser printer options were too bulky for the location and too heavy for an individual to set up or manoeuvre. So inkjet definitely the way to go and I eventually settled on this model after quite a bit of research. So far, after printing about 100 A3 colour pages and scanning about 60, I'm very pleased. The set-up was very easy: well-documented together with clear cues on the printer's screen. I like that access to the ink cartridges is from the front. Similarly, setting up the wi-fi connection to my MacBook Pro was very straightforward. The Brother software isn't very elegantly designed but it does the job and allows good control of quite a wide range of settings. I wouldn't recommend keeping the tray permanently loaded with A3 paper, as it juts out the front quite a way when loaded. But I plan to load A3 only when needed and to keep it stocked with A4 the rest of the time. Print quality was good with accurate colour and sharp text. Scanning via the ADF was adequate, but if I were scanning single photos I'd use the flatbed for a much higher resolution. Unsurprisingly I used up the supplied black cartridge completely (and most of the colours) in that first work batch and promptly spent nearly as much as the printer again on replacement high-capacity cartridges. But that's the inkjet business model for you…
Finally, high praise for the excellent service from Technotronics. Having done the research, I then needed to purchase the printer quite promptly for particular project. The staff were helpful and gave good advice and I received the printer the same day.
